Charmaney's Place Of Refuge Resource Center has been serving the community for over 20 years. We've discovered that in recent years, there has been a huge rise in homelessness among young adults ages 20 and up. Those are who we are targeting. The young adults of South Central Los Angeles are coming out of foster care, abusive and abandoned homes straight on to the streets not being able to find work or opportunities to survive.
These teens and young adults are being faced with fleeing from or making desperate choices of violence, drug abuse, prostitution, gang violence or homelessness; most being single mothers. There seems to be a lack of resources that serves their specific age group.
Most recently, we've been taking in single Moms who are homeless and desperate.
